"What Causes IBS? - Finding Out Is The First
Step Toward Healing!"
What Causes IBS!
In this article I am going to talk about what causes IBS (irritable bowel syndrome). Understanding
what causes this problem can be difficult, because the cause is very evasive. As a matter of fact,
most doctors are not sure how to explain the causes of IBS at all. However, there are some things
that they do agree
on.
So,
I am going to give you a good understanding of IBS, based on what we do know so far. It is
important that you have this understanding so that you can put your mind at ease and get on with
controlling or eliminating this irritable
disease.

Many Possible Causes - Only One Sure
Cause!
IBS has baffled doctors for years. There are many
theories thrown around, that I will talk about below, but there is only one cause that
doctors are sure of.
So what
causes
IBS?
Doctors agree that IBS is caused by a previous bowel infection. Now keep in mind that there can be
many other causes, but a previous bowel infection is the only one that doctors are sure
of.
And what causes these bowel infections? Either a bacteria of some sort or parasites. My IBS was
caused by parasites (from drinking stream water when fishing), which a very good doctor found and
eliminated. The only problem was that he couldn’t eliminate the IBS the parasites caused.
H
owever, I did eventually find out how to deal with that.

What
Causes IBS? - Some
Possible Causes!
In our quest to find out what causes IBS, let’s talk about the other possible causes:
Possible
cause #1:
A Chemical
Imbalance Of Serotonin and Norepinephrine. You say
what? Well, I hate to get too technical on you, but these are simply chemicals that are regulated
by the brain and that influence your bowels.
High amounts of serotonin causes diarrhea and high amounts of norepinephrine causes constipation.
Rather than getting into the complicated subject of how they interact, I will keep it simple and
just say that the brain regulates the amounts of these two “neurotransmitter
chemicals”.
When there is a constant fluctuation between serotonin and norepinephrine being produced by
brain-signals, you have fluctuating bouts of diarrhea and constipation, which is one of the
clearest symptoms of IBS.
This problem can be controlled. I know, because I have been able to control
mine.

Possible cause #2:
Use Of A
Certain Pain Reliever. Researches
have found that many of those who suffer from IBS are people who take acetaminophen as a pain
reliever. Maybe you have heard about this stuff before...it’s found in
Tylenol.
This research is not conclusive enough to say for sure that acetaminophen causes IBS, but it
interesting that so many people who have IBS use this pain reliever. It is also interesting that
acetaminophen raises the level of serotonin. Remember, too much serotonin in your system will cause
diarrhea.
Sounds pretty convincing to me, but not totally proven
yet.
Possible
cause #3:
Being Female
Raises Your Risk Of Getting IBS! Sorry,
ladies, but being a woman means you have female hormones. Your hormones do not cause IBS, because
men get IBS too. However, women do have twice the incidences of IBS than men do and science
believes that women’s hormones may play a role in these
results.

Four Conditions That Are Mistaken For
IBS!
I will
not get into this deeply, but just want you to be aware of four conditions that are commonly
mistaken for IBS. Here the are:
<>Lactose
Intolerance
<>Allergy
To Dairy Products <>Wheat
Allergy <>Gluten
Intolerance (Celiac Disease)
Okay, the above should give you a good idea of what causes IBS and a few things that do not.
However the important thing is that you get relief from your IBS.
I have found relief in learning what not to eat, and how and what and when to eat...and so can
you.
