"Depression And Tinnitus -What You Can Do About
It!"
The Depression And Tinnitus Problem!
Depression and tinnitus often go together. Why? The answer is simply that tinnitus can be so
unbearable. If you have ever suffered with tinnitus, I’m sure you will agree.
Tinnitus
is a condition that is accompanied by a distinct and annoying ringing in the ears. Some people call
it a disease, but I’m not too sure that’s the proper term for it. I believe that tinnitus is more
of a symptom that is caused by other conditions.
No matter what you call it,
anyone who has it knows how irritating that constant screechy ringing in your ears can be!
It’s always there, day and night. When you lay your head on your pillow, there it is nagging away
at you. For many people it is loud enough to keep them awake. Miserable! It’s no wonder that many
people get depressed because of their tinnitus!

Depression And Tinnitus - What Frustration!
Not
everyone who has tinnitus suffers from depression. Some people who have it hardly think about
it. Why is it that some suffer so, and others slide right through it without a bother? Because
tinnitus has different levels of intensity.
People who experience tinnitus related depression are just frustrated by the
consistency, intensity, and tenaciousness of their tinnitus. After all, those who have this level
of tinnitus constantly hear this unpleasant sound in their ears...a sound that no one else can
hear. They didn’t ask for it, they didn’t turn it on, and they can’t turn it off.
The Tinnitus and Depression
Question...
People often ask, “Does depression cause tinnitus or does tinnitus cause
depression?” Some people insist that tinnitus is caused by depression. I don’t like to hear
that, especially from those who have never had tinnitus.
If you are experiencing tinnitus, you don’t need people making you feel worse with
the suggestion that your tinnitus is caused by depression when it is not. Let me make myself
clear. Tinnitus is not caused by depression!
Doctor’s studies have clearly varified this.

Please Let Me Talk To Someone Who
Understands!
Although depression does not cause tinnitus, tinnitus can definitely cause stress
and frustration...and that’s what you need to learn to deal with...at least until your
tinnitus is taken care of.
There are
many suggested ways to treat tinnitus.
Some of these suggestions come
from knowledgeable people and some from not-so-knowledgeable people. These treatments can range
anywhere from using certain drugs to help you sleep through the noise to handing out “placebos.” A
“placebo” is a pill that does absolutely nothing for you. It could be a lump of sugar. The theory
behind it is that you will feel better because you are taking something that you think will help
you.
People who give out “placebos” believe that your tinnitus is not real and is all in your mind. What
a heartless approach! You need real help, not some quack giving you a
placebo.
Some Other Approaches Used To Help Tinnitus (But Don’t Count On
Them)!
A
lot of approaches have been developed to help with depression and tinnitus...some very
helpful and some worthless and a waste of time.
Here are
just a few of them:
- Relaxation techniques
-
Counseling
- TRT
(tinnitus retraining therapy)
What is
TRT? TRT was designed to teach people with tinnitus to divert their attention away from the noise
in their ears. Perhaps some people are helped with this technique, but it can be pricey. With this
technique you have to go to regular counseling sessions, which also means lots of “moola”
transferring from your pocket to the counselor’s pocket. Not my favorite plan.
